Released in 2019, the crime-action movie “The Gentlemen” directed by Guy Ritchie features Matthew McConaughey as Michael Pearson a man who, after working his way up through the ranks and engaging in brutality, finally has a criminal empire of his own. Its owner wants to sell his wholesome weed business to Jeremy Strong’s character Matthew, but things don’t go as planned. Matthew works with Henry Golding to betray Pearson and tear down his empire Dry Eye’s character.

Then, Fletcher, a private investigator, blackmails Raymond Smith, about the illegal affairs of his superior. Also, Fletcher agrees to obliterate all the evidences against Pearson in return for 20 million British pounds.

What is Michael Pearson’s main aim of selling the vast Wyoming weed business?

As he further expresses the character of Michael “Mickey” Pearson, Fletcher mentions to Raymond about Mickey. He was smart but was born in a poor family. Everything turned out for him when he had the chance to win a ticket that would eventually lead him to something he could ever imagine. After being accepted into Oxford, Michael never finished school, nor did he come back to his native city.

Instead, he turned to selling weed to some of his friends and it became quite a success. But hurt and beaten to the ground many times, Mickey finally managed to create something out of nothing but as the years went by and as he hit the fifties, Mickey started to feel vulnerable and wanted to retire from the warfare.

Mickey managed to find a client in representing Matthew. They had made a number of little trades beforehand, but Mickey was now prepared to make a bigger one. For everything including complete weed technology, he quoted 400 million British pounds for the whole business.

Eventually, Mickey was able to put his true intentions for selling his business to Matthew out into the open. He said he has blood on his hands and running a business like marijuana needs someone new without a dirty history, which he claims he doesn’t have.

Fletcher says, “The Sun isn’t going up for me, it’s going down. Why is that?”

Fletcher tells all the information he has so far assembled concerning Michael to Raymond. This information can put a fair amount of trouble on his boss as well as hamper his credibility. Still, Fletcher makes a commitment to fulfill the boy with anything he has for 20 million British pounds.

Later on, Fletcher says that for him, the sun was not going up; it was going down. This phrase caught the attention of a lot of the fans, who then tried to understand its significance. This man diabolically sets his sights on one outcome: making money, any way he possibly can.

According to Fletcher, he doesn’t give a damn about anything or anyone other than him. Thus, the phrase suggests that Fletcher would have no hesitation, if necessary, to throw his own client under the bus in order to make money.

What becomes of Michael’s farms?

After Michael turned down the Dry Eye’s proposition to purchase his entire company, some guys went to one of Michael’s weed farms and filmed themselves breaking in. They engage the farm’s workers in some kind of an MMA battle and upload it on the internet.

Then, they take all the buds to the gym. When the Coach played by Colin Farrell gets wind of the boys’ doings and goes to the gym demanding the video be taken down.

Who is the person who has been put inside the freezer?

While escorting Laura Pressfield back to her house, Raymond together with the boys is confronted with drug abusers that try to thwart their progress. One of them, Power Noel (Tom Rhys Harries), hits Dave with a hammer. Utterly, during the fight, Aslan (Danny Griffin) jumps out of a window and dies.

More complications would arise for Mickey if someone were to find Aslan’s body. So, Raymond and the rest of the boys take the body of Aslan to their home, put it in a freezer and plan to dispose it off later. It turns out Aslan is the son of a wealthy Russian who send hitmen after Raymond and Mickey but the catastrophe is averted due to the Coach.

What is the fate of Dry Eye?

During a phone call with his wife, Mickey gets news that Dry Eye is present in Rosalind’s office. Dry Eye’s plan is to take Rosalind Pearson (Michelle Dockery) with him, but only after the problem with Mickey has been resolved. After Rosalind declines to comply with his request, Dry Eye makes threats against her involving Tony.

When Tony pursues her, Rosalind manages to use a paperweight handgun to kill him. Rather, she wastes her last bullet by shooting it to kill one more of Dry Eye’s men. Dry Eye knows for certain that the clip is empty and assails Rosalind, but at this point Mickey comes to the office in the goodness of time and shoots Dry Eye dead.

But what is the fate of Big Dave in the end?

Two months ago, at a party, it was Mickey who made a fool out of Big Dave. Big Dave has always been claiming that he is the editor of Daily Print and Mickey has always ignored him which left Big Dave in great humiliation. Ever since that day, Big Dave’s plan has been to get back at Mickey. He was intending to get Mickey into trouble with Laura Pressfield (Eliot Sumner) who is the treasured daughter of Lord Pressfield.

Nevertheless, on his way to work one day, Big Dave is abducted by the same people who had once attacked Mickey’s farm. What follows is a drugging which results in him engaging in bestiality with a pig. Coach tells Big Dave to back off; that if he continues stalking Mickey, he will become the star of a disreputable footage.

What about Matthew?

After he has been shown the weed business, Matthew appreciates the tour and praises Mickey. But he is not about to go for the sum which Mickey has quoted him initially. Because of the incident at one of his farms, the estimation of Mickey’s enterprise slipped from four hundred million to one hundred and thirty million British pounds.

Nonetheless, Matthew is not planning to give in so easily and is planning to purchase the whole weed enterprise for one hundred million British pounds. Then, Mickey tells Matthew about a previously held discussion with Dry Eyes, in which they intended to acquire Mickey’s company and then drive it into the ground. After that, Mickey offers Matthew a choice either part with 270 million British pounds or die within a freezer.
