A Virtuous Business – K-drama Episode 7

As the seventh episode of A Virtuous Business begins, we witness the extent of Jeong-suk’s suffering, which has lasted too long. Do-hyeon is still able to see her and assist, but Jeong-suk is in shock, and he patiently takes her to her house. Do-hyeon looks concerned and suggests resting if she cannot head to the emergency room. The officers want to take her statement, but the fellow knows that at this moment, she cannot be focused enough.

The following morning, however, there is little chance of peace for Jeong-suk she is frightened by every single loud sound, including a knock on the door. The women have an active discussion about the business but moving forward for these purposes of in home visits and especially being alone for such purposes is proving in the aftermath of what happened disturbing.

Gyeong-sik, the next day, is still holed up in the police station and when he creates a scene, Do-hyeon has no patience for such antics. He asserts himself and says he will handle this because Jeong-suk, at the moment, is not the right person for this description. Do-hyeon does not appear to be in good form as well. There where Gyeong-sik hit him, he has a gash on the back of his neck and there is blood seeping through the hair and out to the neck which other detectives have started to see.

Do-hyeon is troubled as he learns that Jeong-suk is returning to work, but this is not the case with the latter since she is more worried about how she may rush back into work so soon. She doesn’t want people to hear about it, and Do-hyeon is happy to accommodate her.

But detective Na has quite a tongue in mouth and while boasting about his quality work, spills out certain bits of information to the ladies of the neighborhood. They are not dumb, and make a logical conclusion that Jeong-suk was the target. Not long after that, Jeong-suk has a conversation with them about the gossip in the town and is disgusted at the thought of appearing before the mob, who she fears have made it their mission to tarnish Min-ho’s name in the process.

In the next in-house call, Jeong-suk comes and upon entering, instead of the husband, she sees Gyeong-sik which throws her into a frenzy. As do-hyeon comes she grabs her belongings and flees. He is anxious about her and thinks this approach of running away and hiding is not a solution. He desires to help and empower her to rise up to such challenges and win over it, but Jeong-suk simply is not in that place right now. She does, however, notice the bandages which are at the base of Do-hyeon’s neck.

Jeong-suk’s friends are the last to know but hearing the news has become the talk of the town. Ghe O-reum and Yeong-bok came the same night and straight away got disturbed. The thing is, Gyeong-sik is not one to take this sitting and is trying to play the victim. The couple has an opinion that Jeong-suk has to go up against it that originates from lauding her to giving her statement and making the report to the police.

The emotional change, however, is for Min-ho to speak with his best friend. He suggests to the pair how they can tackle these problems freely without being victimized and pushed about.

The women, now filled with a sense of autonomy after their decision, go to give their testimonies. They all strut into the station fully made up and announce that they will say the correct story. However, the local women who are already present seem to the witnesses of Jeong-suk, which surprises them.

But the drama begins with Gyeong-sik’s trickery when he alleges that she has come to the house to collect the settlement money. Jeong-suk who is always so calm and mild mannered surprisingly loses her temper and screams at Gyeong-sik. Amusingly, this unnerves everyone present in the meeting. While the man finds this amusing, the lady in this case manages to hold her ground and tells the man to stop silencing her, going as far as to slap the top of his head clean off.

Despite the fact that Jeong-suk is concerned about the possible consequences, Do-hyeon and the rest of the group decide they are going to brush this one off. Among all this agony and suffering, one thing is apparent. All patients who see or know Jeong-suk respect her and it seems she has gained fans for all the right reasons.

Yeong-bok and others watch in astonishment as the modest Ms Jeong-suk erupts with newfound confidence which she still claims she had help with. This however effectively turns out to be the essence of talking too much as she then meets Do-hyeon the next day which makes her wish for such disregard. Na however is skeptical considering his fascination with her but he figures it is probably just for the sake of obtaining a bulk price for some adult items!

In the meantime, Yeong-bok and other women discover rather shocking news, Yeong-bok’s period is suspected to be somehow related with her sickness and a feeling of constant lurking and excessive body. Taking her initial illness into account, she rushes to her chemist’s shop for whatever medicine suits her condition but then she takes a look at her watch and the date gives her a fright because she computes the chances of being pregnant are high.

A man named Du-seok calls Yeong-bok’s husband and tries to schedule a meeting, and this is a bit more serious than he anticipates. Yeong-bok has intentions of acquiring a bigger building which would come with a fatter paycheck. If carelessness were a probable outcome of pregnancy, he would give in to this temptation but let us contine to observe.

As the cop and the lady who posed to be his wife met last week, Jeong-suk was determined to help the policeman trace his mother. Since where she is concerned, there’s no way she wouldn’t pay gratitude to him for being of assistance with her problems. The rest of the space is unsightly and devoid of warmth except for the part true to him where majority of his belongings are packed. He owns several boxes, documents and tons of paper. Prominent among them is the dark board that is covered with names. Perhaps even some of the names, belong to his mother.

These people embody something that (Law And Order) around focal points of this episode is not called. The images became clearer as the talkers related to the subject of the episode. From these images we can discern the appearance and the outlines of several structures that were depicted in the arson painter pictures. It’s highly likely that there’s a person who’s not only setting houses ablaze please, but also seems to be in the business of carting away toddlers from the homes he’s set alight. And yes, the man in contention appears to be one of the brand’s first customers, given the ornate vocalizations of peas on the belly areas and up the fist arms.

Looking for someone to help out, Jeong-suk goes full steam ahead and claims that it’s her job to interview the women in the area first. It’s possible that they would be more willing to speak to her rather than him, which makes Do-hyeon have a warmer opinion of her than before. Do-hyeon responds to the memos the women left him when she leaves, and then recalls a portion he had never considered what if his folks were searching for him too?

It is during the night, when Jeong-suk finds herself on the couch, where she resolves to return to Dae Hyun’s house for her notepad. The detective, still in her slumber, witnesses horrifying dreams. He hears some humming, followed by a dream where a pregnant woman sits in front of him, patting her belly. He does not see her face, and as he wakes up, there is a sight he sees Jeong-suk in front of him and hugs her because he is worried about what he saw in the dream.

The Collapse of Dignity Episode Review

Particularly, it was nice to see all those neighborhood ladies rally behind Jeong-suk after the abuse she suffered. It also helps to relieve some of the more intense scenes with Gyeong-sik or the Do-hyeon mystery while helping sustain this idea of girls empowering one another and standing together throughout the drama.

To further complicate matters, there is also the case of the Yeong-bok pregnancy which is certainly going to throw a spanner in the works. Add into the mix the adorable flirtation that develops between Ju-ri and Dae-geun, which provides quite a bit of emotional comic relief. To be honest, this child better cool her jets because after that kiss, he scraped her chin!

But certainly, this episode is more of a healing one than an anything else. It is both Jeong-suk and Do-hyeon who are getting exposed to the more profound aspects of life which they never knew existed, and which incidentally facilitates the evolution of both their characters and the relationship they have built too.

The conclusion actually teases that from the next episodes that we have, there will be matters of romance, and as usual, we can only wait and see what the next episodes have for us!
